Among the many and varied services and programs provided by The Salvation Army throughout Fairfield County, those that particularly bring joy at Christmastime are the Adopt-a-Family, Angel Tree and Holiday Gift Baskets programs. Together, these programs help to ensure that hundreds of lower-income families in our community have an opportunity to receive gifts, have gifts for their children and funds to purchase food for a Christmas dinner celebration.
Each year, hundreds of families are helped through the Adopt-a-Family program. Local Salvation Army facilities, as well as dozens of local agencies and schools, refer families for consideration to receive the benefits of Adopt-a-Family.
Families and seniors that participate in the program are paired with kind-hearted sponsors who purchase and wrap gifts and drop them off at our distribution facility.
Each year, thousands of toys, books, and new clothes are distributed via the annual Salvation Army Angel Tree. Children's wish lists are posted on tags at various locations throughout Fairfield County. Individuals, families, and groups can select the child and purchase items from the tag for them to receive on Christmas morning.
Parents or guardians wishing to register an age-appropriate child (or children) for Angel Tree program will need to register as part of our Christmas Cheer Campaign. Application dates for the 2017 Christmas Cheer Program are Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 20.
Each year, hundreds of gift baskets are distributed to families that might not otherwise have a great meal for Christmas. The Salvation Army relies upon the generosity of local donors to supply the contents for these bountiful gift baskets, as well as financial contributions that provide the means to purchase items for the baskets.
Thanks to all those who help us in the process of implementing these programs. We couldn't do it without you!
